The title of today's sermon, “ Waiting for the redemption of the body, ” is taken from Romans 8:23 . NIV Bible is " redemption of the body " to " Is the Redemption of Our bodies" was described as . Literally, it means the salvation of the body . Joint translation translated redemption as liberation . The Greek word “ apostrosis ” is used throughout the meaning of redemption , salvation , and liberation . We usually say salvation or soul salvation, not body salvation . Paul deliberately " salvation of the body, " What is the reason that the expression ?

 

Not only that, but also we, who have received the firstfruits of the Holy Spirit, groan inwardly, waiting for adoption, the redemption of our bodies ( v . 23 ).

Paul says that all Christians in the Roman church, including himself, groan in their hearts . “I sigh .” The expression in the Korean Bible, "" sounds very strong . To sigh and to wait are actually the same thing . The current situation has no choice but to groan, so we eagerly await salvation . Christians at the time had a dilemma in this regard . On the one hand, he received the firstfruits of the Holy Spirit , that is , the salvation of life, but on the other hand, it was far from salvation in real life . He said that he has become a child of God, and he still has not escaped from the difficulties in the world . It is not wrong to portray the way we live today . When referring to such a situation, Paul expressed sighs .

Our existence, which is bound to groan, points to the fact that we will ultimately die, but even while we are alive, we cannot escape from that fate . I have to eat every day to live . Eat three times a day, not just once . There is also economic violence . No matter how much a person learns and cultivates, he is personally imperfect . Pride cannot be removed . Sexual desire also manifests violently at times . This is the betrayal of human life . If sexual desires were removed from everyone, or if appetite was completely eliminated, violence would cease, but humans themselves would disappear from Earth . All of these things are our existence where we can only groan . Christians are no exception here, so Paul mentioned the groaning of creation and the groaning of Christians simultaneously .

 

Transcendent reality , or fleeing

Some of the early Christians solved this problem in an enthusiastic way . They claim that because they have already been saved by believing in Jesus, they are free from things that are worth lamenting . The most suitable example is the revival meeting I experienced when I was in middle and high school . Sing the hymn over and over again, clapping enthusiastically . Your emotions get hotter and hotter . Religious ecstasy ( ecstasy ) goes into . It may be temporarily out of reality . There is mysticism in a slightly sophisticated way . Those who go out into the desert or enter the monasteries to experience God in a mystical way can neatly forget about the things of the world going back like their old helmets . We forget appetite, we forget sexual desire, we only think about resurrection and glory . The characteristic of enthusiasm and mysticism is the fact that they transcend reality . Through this transcendence, they thought they could draw closer to God . Looking at their faith negatively, it is an escape from reality .What do you think ? Are beyond , it is fleeing .

Paul says something really important at this point . It happens with Jesus Christ that we become children of God . It means to share in the fate of Christ . That is why Paul said in verse 17 that in order to be glorified with Jesus Christ, we must also suffer suffering . Suffering here is, of course, participating in the existence and history of human beings who are bound to groan . There is no glory without suffering . There is no salvation without sighs . Paul did not say that all you need to do is turn away from sighing and groaning in the body and rejoice in the soul . In the sighs of the whole creation, we Christians have no choice but to sigh because they must live with bodies .

In the expression of the salvation of the body, the body is a translation of the Greek word “ soma ” . Soma refers to the body as a vessel that holds the soul, unlike the Greek word “ sarx , ” which refers to the body as protein . Soma doesn't refer to my hair or nails or shapes like nose, mouth and limbs, but rather a component that combines with the soul and makes that person's personality possible . Without it, the person's unique personality is something that disappears . My personality, psychology, and emotions are not yet complete . I was not saved . That is why, despite being a child of God, they groan and live . I await the salvation of the body, which points to the whole personality .

 

Hope and salvation

Visible and invisible

Recently, again, the problem of soaring apartment prices has confused society . That is why the approval ratings of the government and ruling party are falling . In fact, the price of apartments across the country is not skyrocketing, and the problem is mainly apartments in the Gangnam area of ​​Seoul, so people in other regions do not need to pay attention, but when such a problem comes out, the whole country is shaken . It seems that all Koreans live looking at Gangnam Bay in Seoul like a sunflower . People in other regions may not be interested, but the media may encourage them . I don't have to talk about how the real estate issues and the national economy intertwine at the time of my sermons . I don't even know . However, I must tell you that apartments and the management of goods through them are the most visible things to our eyes, so people are addicted to them . Let me take the play of young children as a metaphor .

Several young children gather here to play marbles . They don't even know they're hungry because they're crazy about the game . They fight and get hurt . And kids cheating , kids to punch . Some children are flattering their strong friends . The child who collects a lot of marbles rejoices , and the child who has lost is depressed . There is no big difference between children's beading and adults' apartment financing . Essentially, they have two things in common . 1) For children, marbles are absolute in their lives, and for adults, goods are absolute . They experience salvation through what they consider to be absolute . 2) come the moment the ball becomes meaningless , comes the moment apartments jaetekeu become meaningless . Unlike playing marbles, which is just a game, there are some who argue that making money depends on your life and is completely different .Do you have anybody who asks if you can give out all your fortune like children who give out marbles to friends ? Even if I don't make such a decision, the moment will come when I will put everything off my hand . There is nothing different from you . I try to live with the feeling of seeking food for at least daily use until that moment is only . In the end, these problems will also belong to the sighs of creation .

 

Waiting

If Paul hopes for the salvation of the body he cannot see, he says, " Wait with patience ." Is recommended . It's not just a recommendation, it's a powerful command . It is the same as the command of the commander to wait until the morning comes even if the guards are drowsy during the war . It is difficult to live while waiting . It feels too far to be told that we are waiting for the moment to become an integral living being in God because there are piles of urgent tasks in front of us . Think about what you are actually waiting for now . Employment junbisaeng is the moment to work , who want to marry is a wedding moment , you want to advance in the workplace minute wait for the moment to be promoted this announcement . People who don't have these urgent things because they are old or alone feel empty in life . In this situation, the words of the Bible do not resonate with us . You may think that you can have fun with your life as long as you don't . I have nothing more to say to those who think that. You must pray for the help of the Holy Spirit .

Paul was not talking just to wait " with patience ." I expressed to wait . " To endure " the NIV Bible , " patiently " the means patiently translated it says . ( The root of this word, patient means patient ). Waiting for the salvation of the body is not romantic . It cannot be solved by unconditionally enthusiastic beliefs . This is because , as in verse 17 quoted earlier , we must also receive “ suffering ” in this world . So many Christians are " salvation of the body, " not to live while waiting for a heart to the other .From building a large church hall, becoming an elder, sending missionaries , or in the hope of going to heaven in death and receiving a golden crown, we gain the power of our religious life . These things don't mean anything, but no matter how good they are, they only have marginal meaning . Because patiently waiting for the salvation of the body is the essence of the Christian faith .
